Mental Health And Hepatitis

People living with severe mental illness have an increased prevalence of hepatitis B and hepatitis C in comparison to the general population. In part, this can be attributed to the fact that severe mental illness is associated with behaviours that can lead to the transmission of viral hepatitis.

It is important to integrate mental health services with hepatitis testing and treatment. It leads to increased diagnosis rates, increased linkage to care and decreased hepatitis related deaths.
